Lumecca uses intense pulsed light (IPL) technology to deliver a high-intensity light beam to the targeted area of the skin. This light is absorbed by the pigment in the skin, such as melanin or hemoglobin, which causes the targeted cells to heat up and be destroyed. For example, when treating hyperpigmentation, the light energy is absorbed by the excess melanin in the skin, causing it to break down and be absorbed by the body’s natural processes. Similarly, when treating vascular lesions, the light energy is absorbed by the hemoglobin in the blood vessels, causing them to coagulate and be absorbed by the body.

Over time, as the treated cells are absorbed and eliminated by the body, the targeted area of the skin appears smoother, clearer, and more even-toned.

Sun 

Avoid direct sun exposure and wear a high-SPF sunscreen to protect your skin. Sun damage can make your skin more sensitive and increase the risk of adverse reactions to the treatment.

Avoid certain skincare products

In the days leading up to the treatment, it’s important to avoid using any skincare products that contain retinol, alpha-hydroxy acids, or beta-hydroxy acids, as these can make the skin more sensitive to the treatment.

Shave the treatment area

For certain areas of the body, such as the legs or underarms, it’s a good idea to shave the treatment area a day or two before the procedure.

Arrive with clean skin

On the day of the treatment, it’s important to arrive with clean, makeup-free skin to ensure the best possible results.

Stay out of the sun

To avoid any damage to the treated area, it’s important to stay out of direct sunlight or tanning beds for a few days after the treatment.

Be gentle with your skin

Use gentle skincare products and avoid harsh or abrasive treatments that may irritate the skin. Think of your skin as being a little sensitive after a sunburn, so you want to be extra gentle.

Cool it down

If you experience any redness or discomfort in the treated area, applying a cold compress can help soothe the skin and reduce inflammation.

Wear sunscreen

To protect your skin and prevent further damage, it’s important to wear sunscreen or a hat to shield the treated area from the sun’s harmful rays.

Take it easy

For the first day or two after the treatment, it’s best to avoid any strenuous exercise or activities that may cause excessive sweating, as this can irritate the treated area.
